This was the first story from this author that I have read and I must say it exceeded my expectations. The story is about a strong, passionate, bold and sweet criminal defense attorney and a dedicated, balanced, caring and trustworthy MC president. Emily and Link start their relationship with passion and heat and that never lets off. I loved the originality of thus story and how the MC is a rehabilitation center for Veterans. This story was great and I will read more in the future.What issues I gad with this story are few and small, but enough to reduce my rating by a star. The story started out strong about a murder trial but I soon found that it was mostly about the romance. Not a bad thing, but I would have liked more action. It felt at time that the “nice” MC was trying to be too tough and hard. It worked for the story, but felt a little out of character. The last thing that bugged me, and thus is a pet peeve, is that at the end of a scene the chapter would change and then the same scene would replay from the other characters perspective. I felt like I did a lot of re-reading and that just annoys me.Like I mentioned above, I enjoyed this story and I do recommend it to those readers looking for a softer and original story. I am off to read book two about Havoc. I didn't hate this book but it didn't wow me either. The plot had several elements that have been done before: MC member (the president in this case) is attracted to the sexy lawyer who's defending them. Link's Sergeant at Arms is arrested when he beats the bejeesus out of the mayor's son when he catches him sexually assaulting a girl. Unfortunately, the girl goes missing and there are no witnesses willing to come forward as the mayor has a reputation of being crooked and using strong-arm tactics.This book had a stack of well-worn tropes: the over the top gay best friend (with cliche lines such as 'These guys sound yummy'), a crooked mayor that is at the top of the pecking order but needs to get what's coming to him, the strong, feisty lawyer who's amazing at her job, the MC club that are bad boys but help others so are actually good guys. This MC in particular is made up of ex-military (another trope) that specialises in helping vets get back on their feet - of course they do. Within the first couple of chapters there's also the token reference to the club girls at the club house along with the usual derogatory terms that had me rolling my eyes. Yes, every club girl is just desperate for sex and wants to be used...The book was predictable with some ridiculousness thrown in for good measure. There's the best friend/receptionist who does research on MCs by, wait for it, reading a couple of motorcycle club romance novels. Yep. There's a decent amount of steam but the dialogue that went with it had me cringing too much to get into it. Gratuitous dirty talk to add a splash of the illicit was obvious and in no way how anyone I've ever met actually talks. There was a lot of emphasis on how Link was hot and bad and dangerous...but at the same time, a really good guy. It was laid on thick, but there's a bit of possessiveness there as well if that's your thing.The writing was okay but after focussing the book on a single case, it wrapped up far too quickly and conveniently. It wasn't really my thing but was an easy read. If you like MC romances that are over the top with tropes (like a lot are), you'll like this book. Unfortunately, I don't, but I know a lot of MC fans will.
